I feel like such a bad mummy. I realised that since his one month update, I haven’t written much about Benjamin’s development on the blog at all. He turned five months on Saturday and although it’s a cliché, I don’t know where the time has gone! It seems like only a few weeks ago that I had him and now he’s nearly half a year old, it’s crazy!
Benjamin has now been teething for a good two months but finally we can see the beginnings of some teeth, so hopefully it will ease a little soon (before the next ones start popping through). Nuby products and Boots own brand teething gel have been lifesavers over this time.
After co-sleeping for 3 months, we moved Benjamin into his cot and now he sleeps mostly on his own. He will wake generally once at 4.30 or 5.30am and occasionally I keep him in bed after this feed. I miss his warm little body next to mine, but I know he is sleeping better without constantly being able to smell my milk.
Although Benjamin isn’t yet crawling, he has started moving by shuffling himself backwards or forwards. He doesn’t go far yet, but I’m sure it won’t be too much longer before he’s off, off and away and I’ll be wishing the time back where I could keep my eye on him in one place!
Benjamin loves bathtime! He giggles like mad and splashes around. I truly think it’s his favourite time – such a little water baby!
Benjamin has started talking in the past week. Although he’s been babbling for longer, it was only last week when he finally started making some sense. He now says Hi and Dadda constantly – so cute!
Benjamin is still exclusively breastfed at present. Guidelines are currently 6 months, and although I started purées at 4 months with my older two, I plan to wait with Benjamin. We are hoping to baby led wean with him and this is definitely not recommended until 6 months. I’m so excited for him to start eating foods with us!
I was awful this time round and didn’t take Benjamin out to anything much at all to start with. I’ve just started going to a stay and play group with Benjamin and Carly on a Tuesday, which they both seem to enjoy, and I’ve also started going on a buggy walk with other mums in the area, which I really enjoyed too. As we walk by the sea, I can’t wait until it’s a little warmer and I can get Benjamin to feel the sand between his toes!
Benjamin is now just over 15 pounds. He’s still in size 3 nappies (and I have my fingers crossed he stays in them for some time as we’ve just bought more in bulk) but he’s now growing out of his size 3-6 months clothes so he’s gone into 6-9 months!
Benjamin is growing into a very headstrong little boy, much like his older sister. He knows what he wants and wants it right away. He has an adorable cheeky smile, and he loves nothing more than big cuddles from his mummy, daddy, brother and sister.
