Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life. While it should also be a day of happiness, many people find that planning for their wedding is incredibly stressful. Relationships are tested in the run-up to the wedding.

One of the best things to do is to try to reduce the stress as much as possible. Work together as you plan, and act as a team rather than as opponents. While you both might have your own ideas and plans, find a way to collaborate and compromise rather than just trying to get what you want.

Setting a Budget

Weddings, like everything else, cost a lot more now than they used to. The average cost of a wedding in the UK is over £20,000, which is a huge knock to the wallet.

Whether you’re hitting the average, splurging for more, or trying to save money, the important thing is to set a budget before you book anything. Work out the approximate cost of everything so you can make sure things add up properly.

Try to include some wiggle room in your budget in case things are more expensive than you expect. If you can save up for a while before the wedding, even better.

Finding a Venue

This is a massive decision and should be made early on in the planning process. After all, the venue impacts the theme of your wedding, the guest list, and even how long it will take to travel to and from the wedding.

First, decide whether you want a destination wedding or a local wedding. If one of you lives away from their family and friends, it might be worth planning a wedding near those family members or even planning two wedding celebrations.

Make sure that both are happy with the venue and that it suits your budget and your needs.

The Guest List

Once you have a venue, you have a good idea of how many guests you can invite to your wedding. This is a difficult decision, especially if you have a lot of family who have certain expectations.

The earlier you plan the guest list, the sooner you can think about sending out invitations and making sure everyone can get there.

Remember that the wedding is about you as a couple, not family expectations or even expectations from your boss or colleagues. If you want a big wedding, great. If not, make sure everyone at the wedding is someone you want to be there.

Wedding Insurance

As mentioned before, weddings are expensive. It stands to reason that you want to make sure that money doesn’t go to waste.

If you’re worried about something going wrong and potentially ruining the day or costing more than you expect, consider wedding insurance. This can give you the peace of mind you need to actually enjoy planning for the wedding, without worrying so much about things going wrong and leaving you with a huge bill.
