There is just something special about the start of a new month, especially during the height of spring, which has me reaching for those barbecue tongs and dusting off the salad bowls, inviting my nearest and dearest to celebrate the great British weather giving us a reprieve long enough to indulge in a sausage or two before that pesky rain starts again (seriously, what is up with all the rain this year?).

Fortunately my mum has a lovely back garden that we are able to gatecrash whenever we fancy a barbecue, as ours is neither big or nice enough to host in. We headed over there recently to enjoy our first BBQ of the season, and were lucky enough to have been sent a few bottles of wine to enjoy alongside the burgers.

I enjoyed each of these wines, but I think my favourite for an easy drinker would be the Villiera Chenin Blanc, which went down very easily, having been chilled in the fridge for a while as the barbecue heated up. It went very well with a chicken kebab I enjoyed, and I would definitely purchase again. The bottle is nice too, which is always a bonus!

Next up was the Riesling, which again was nice to drink alongside the food. I would also enjoy this one at the beach, overlooking the waves crashing onto the shore this summer as the weather heats up. Again, a lovely bottle – it would be a  wine to take round a friend’s house as a hostess gift, definitely a contender for my new favourite wine.

Finally the Arthur Metz Organic Cremate d’Alsace was opened at the end of the night when we were toasting the birthday boy (my uncle). I am a Prosecco girl usually but this Brut has me as a convert. It was a lovely, easy to drink, smooth sparkling wine, which everybody enjoyed having a little taste of. Would definitely purchase again, and it is up against my favourite Prosecco when looking for a sparkling wine for more barbecued this spring/summer….

Have you had your first barbecue of the year yet? What is your favourite bbq tipple?
