Parking can be a source of anxiety even for experienced drivers, especially when it comes to parallel parking. It is understandable as it can be an incredibly tricky procedure and stressful, especially if you have others in the car and/or others are watching. With this in mind, here are a few parking tips that will hopefully improve your skills and reduce stress when it comes to parking.

Practice

Much like any skills, practice is key both for developing your skills and improving your confidence. Find somewhere that is quiet for you to practice parking and over time you should notice an improvement and also notice that you feel less stressed when parking in busier areas.

Use Parking Sensors

Buying a car fitted with parking sensors is smart and will make a big difference to your ability to park and should prevent any accidents from happening. Many modern-day cars are fitted with these sensors, but if not then you can purchase your own and install them and this is certainly worthwhile if your car does not have them.

Use a Reversing Camera

Similarly, many modern cars come with reversing cameras that will allow you to easily see what is behind you and guide your car into a tight spot. Lack of visibility and having to control the car while craning your neck looking through the rear windows can be tricky is often what causes a lot of stress, so these cameras can make a huge difference to your stress levels and abilities.

Use Your Mirrors

Even with cameras, you should still make sure that you are using your mirrors and have them positioned to give you the best possible view while attempting to park. This is helpful for seeing how much space you have, how close you are to the curb as well as any other cars or pedestrians that you need to be aware of.

Take Your Time

It is also important that you take your time when parking. Many people try to rush especially if they have other people in the car or people watching on the street, but when you rush you will feel stressed and you are more likely to make a mistake. Instead, give yourself plenty of time, take a deep breath and ease your way into it.

Parking is a tricky manoeuvre and one that can leave even a confident driver feeling flustered. Hopefully, this post will come in useful and help motorists to improve their abilities to park as well as reduce stress and anxiety while performing the manoeuvre. Like many things in life, practice makes perfect so you should not shy away from it and before long you will be able to cooly park in the tightest of spots.
