As we are due to move house next week, and have lots of projects planned, one area we have been looking at, especially since the events of this year, has been working on the garden to make it a space we would be happy to spend a lot of time in, should we end up at home a lot as we were this summer.
I have been pinning lots of inspiration on Pinterest for not only the interior of the house, but also for the garden and, looking ahead to next summer, the plan is to have a summer garden that we will be able to spend time in and enjoy as a family, and hopefully with guests being able to come over as well.
These are some of the ideas that I have been looking at, which would really help when planning ahead for your summer garden.
Outdoor Furniture
One of the things I noticed when we were looking around houses at the start of our search was how well some people had transformed their garden space with the addition of outdoor furniture. Adding a simple table and chairs, or seating area can really change the entire look and feel of a garden, and is perfect for the warmer summer months when it stays light outside for longer and it’s warm enough to stay in the garden for longer. Lighting
If you are looking to spend a lot of time in the garden, it is worth investing in some suitable outside lighting so that the fun doesn’t have to stop once the sun goes down. If you are looking for inspiration, head online for ideas – I personally love the look of fairy lights strung from the trees to give a magical ethereal quality to your garden decor.
A Summer House
If you are looking to add a real focal point to your garden next summer, why not consider a summer house. If you have a shed, you could work on it to transform it ready for the new season. Add cushions, throws and an area to mix up some seasonal cocktails and you’ll be set for a summer at home.
Grow Your Own
I try not to bring up politics too much, but if you are looking ahead to how Brexit may affect the UK next year, you could prepare to grow your own fruit, veg and herbs, to save some money and enjoy some homegrown produce. You could even get the kids involved and give them their own areas of the garden to help maintain throughout the seasons.
Plant Ahead
If you want a beautiful, colourful garden by the summer, now is the time to plan ahead and decide what you need to plant when to ensure everything is in bloom in six months time. Research in advance and make sure you check planting conditions before making any final decisions.
