Mummy Mondays – Preparing for Our First Family Festival

Something very exciting is happening this month, well ok actually there are several exciting things happening this month. July may in fact be our most exciting month so far this year, but what I wanted to discuss today was our very first festival as a family as we are off to Camp Bestival!

Camp Bestival is in its 10th year but this will be my first time attending, despite it being located a short car journey away from us here in Dorset. We still haven’t decided for sure whether we will be camping or just travelling over each day, Ed and the kids would much prefer the former but I have never camped anywhere before, and am a little nervous and unsure as to whether we should really be pitching up tents just a few days before we go away on our cruise.

Whatever we decide to do, we are very excited to be heading along for the first time, and have been looking at the line-up and trying to work out what we want to see. As well as being my first family festival, this will only be my second festival in general that I have attended, so I am very much a newbie when it comes to manoeuvring a busy event site like this one. I will be looking for tips and tricks from seasoned Camp Bestivalers, so if you have a review or post of this nature, please point me in the right direction, I need all the help I can get!

I think Ed is most excited for Basement Jaxx (and Rick Astley, but shhh I don’t think he wants that shared), whilst I have been looking into the food stalls that will be available, and am very intrigued by the gin festival coming to Camp Bestival this year, having recently discovered a love for pink gin!

I also think the kids will really enjoy theirselves. The festival is very family orientated, with lots of entertainment suitable for all ages. Benjamin has just started taking an interest in CBeebies, and I think he will enjoy seeing Mr Tumble take to the stage, whilst Carly and Cameron are both into their interactive activities and arts and crafts and will love the Make Space. The soft play, circus skills and go-carts are also bound to be a hit with them too!

In preparation for the festival, I have been looking at what we should take along and writing a list. Obviously this will depend on whether we decide to camp or not, but even for a day trip, it’s good to be prepared for all eventualities. I will be stocking up on plasters, painkillers, refillable bottles for water to keep us all hydrated, portable chargers for devices, and all the memory cards for my camera, something tells me I will be snapping away a lot throughout the weekend!

We are very kindly attending the festival as guests, and will be active over social media whilst there, as well as sharing our experience with you afterwards, so keep an eye out for that if you haven’t been before and are interested to see what we thought of the festival!

Are you attending Camp Bestival this year? Do you have tips on things we must-see or do whilst we are there? Are you camping, and would you recommend it? Let me know!
