Yesterday Ed, the kids and I had a lazy lie-in Sunday morning before wrapping up warm and heading out to the New Forest. I always feel we are lucky to not only live right by the sea, but also within a short drive of the beautiful landscape of the forest. Our favourite part is Burley, as it’s not too far out for us, it’s nice and rural whilst still having some shops and pubs and it has plenty of parking spots.
We arrived around half twelve so went straight to The Queen’s Head pub for some Sunday lunch. We’ve been a couple of times before and it’s a nice little country pub serving Sunday roasts along with some other typical pub food. Ed and I went for the roast beef, along with 3 pigs in blankets (can never have too many pigs in blankets). The kids went for chicken nuggets, chips and beans and a burger, chips and beans.
The food came quickly and was relatively good, very filling, the only downsides to me were that the parsnips were very large so not as crispy as I like them, and the roast potatoes were quite burnt. The kids were happy with theirs, and we were all so full we didn’t have room for dessert- unheard of!
After lunch, we ended up wondering over to where some goats lived. Carly and Cameron had great fun feeding the goats some lettuce leaves. They also discovered a rusty tractor and played on that for a little while.
We drove on and stopped by some horses. The kids burned off some of their energy running around in the muddy field before we headed back home via Waitrose to pick up a pirate cupcake for each of the children and a blonde princess cupcake for me.
